Waking Up To Sleeping Lessons With Grow

Waking Up To Sleeping Lessons With Grow

Melbourne trio Sleeping Lessons' latest single Grow came out of nowhere, calmly unhinged my jaw and threw it at the ground. With their debut EP on it's way to our ears we dig into what makes the first offering from the release just so gosh darn special.

Every now and then a song comes along that has the ability to just sweep me into a haze where it's all I want to and all I do listen to. Sleeping Lessons'  latest Grow has just that ability. A slow building hurricane of pinpoint musical accuracy envelops and carries Grow from start to finish.  A masterclass in it's namesake for song construction, Grow, starts as a simple guitar loop with grounded relaxed vocals before piling reprise on reprise and exploding into soaring synths and manic drumming. Developing in just over 4 minutes from something simple and safe to something dangerously intelligent and ever dynamic.

Lyrically unguarded and vulnerable Grow asks questions of youth, aging, self worth and personal growth delivered in a style that make me think of Julian Casablancas waking up and reasoning himself into a fight. At times ready to fall apart and others ready to spit in your face.

It's a truly special song and as a taste of things to come it couldn't me any more moreish.
