Get Green With Lyrical Envy on Carla Geneve's Debut Single Greg's Discount Chemist
There is a lot to unpack in Carla Geneve’s debut single Greg’s Discount Chemist but for now just take a moment to sit in the brilliance of the line “I wish I could kill time, but time's killing me”. God damn, hot damn.
There is a raw rambling sincerity throughout Carla Geneve's debut single Greg's Discount Chemist that sucks you in, pats you on the back and gives you a big shot of lyrical cough syrup. A song of getting sick, fever dreams, having a big ole' crush and getting on.
Having come from a firm folk background, Greg's Discount Chemist is Carla Geneve's first riotously good foray into alt-rock. Having planted herself on plenty of huge stages, buzz band lists and industry radars off her own back in 2017, Carla Geneve has grown out to a three piece band for Greg's Discount Chemist. A decision that has created the perfect platform to showcase not only her beautiful touch for a lyric but also the unique quality to her voice.
Greg's Discount Chemist's finest quality for me is it's ability to allow that voice room to own itself. Everything works in a way as to which it shines enough to make you realise it is really bloody good without ever taking your attention away from what takes this song to another level; Geneve's songwriting and self.
Greg's Discount Chemist is an incredibly impressive debut from one of the West Coast's most impressive artists. One that I can't wait to watch blow up in 2018.
