PREMIERE: Okin Osan – I Wanna Be That Girl
Drenched in retro-pop sounds, Okin Osan, the punk-influenced project of Rose Chan, has a pool of accolades too long to list and a back catalogue of tracks worthy of them all. Today Laundry Echo is stoked to premiere the Sydney songwriter’s latest single I Wanna Be That Girl.
First penned in 2010, when Chan was 16, I Wanna Be That Girl is a teenage love note written in song and rebirthed almost a decade later in 2018. It’s going to make you think of your high school crush, remember awkward school disco kisses and wonder what could have been.
I Wanna Be That Girl immediately packs a punch as Chan’s vocals ride in on the first beat of the track and a wave of washed out 60s surf guitars. Simple in its sound but faultless in its execution, I Wanna Be That Girl, will suck you in and carry you through its 2 minutes of slapping snares and high school romance. As a song, I Wanna Be That Girl, leverages its simplicity as a mechanism for getting stuck in your head and uses its brevity as a reason to hit repeat.
It’s impressive stuff from an incredibly impressive musician who you can catch live as she tours the single through Melbourne, Canberra and Sydney:
11th April - The Tote Front Bar w/ Culte & Marlon Bando - Melbourne
12th April - Longplay w/ Oranges & Girlatones - Melbourne
13th April - Transit Bar w/ Oranges & Leaving - Canberra
14th April - Botany View Hotel w/ Leavings, Oranges & Sleepy – Sydney
