Listen To Skin The Hauntingly Good New Single From Mere Women
Released as one half of a 7” Split with Melbourne’s Harmony, as a part of Split Singles Club, Skin is the brilliant new single from Mere Women. A daunting deep dive into meticulously constructed post-punk from one of the country’s most brilliant exponents of the form, Skin, is going to stay with you.
Skin is an immediate onslaught of dark layered sounds, as four musicians audibly buck and fight against each other whilst running down the same straight and narrow. Ultimately held together and brought into cohesion by the remarkably clean, soaring vocal of frontwoman Amy Wilson. Skin is non-conformist, ever interesting music written in such a way as to break down the constraints of the modern song cannon.
Nothing at any point feels loose, rather pointed in its delivery, even when that delivery is relaxed in its nature. Every sound feels deliberate and considered, leading ultimately to no single element being able to be brought up as a highlight. Everything that happens in Skin strikes you and forces your hair to stand on end.
Equal parts refreshing, rewarding and remarkable, Skin, sits as another tell as to why Mere Women have become one of the most well-respected bands in Sydney.
