VIDEO PREMIERE: FeelsClub - Never Knows Best
In a release of rumination and reflection on the band’s journey to date, FeelsClub, have landed their biggest single to date in Never Knows Best. An epic launched off a bed of candy pop, Never Knows Best, is anthemic, euphoric and truly one of the best songs of 2019 so far.
FeelsClub are a band that have been hyped to me by friends post live show for the best part of 3 years, a hype entirely justified when I saw the band live for the first time myself. Raw yet polished, explosive yet controlled a FeelsClub live show is euphoric. FeelsClub have always been brilliant and with each release that brilliance has shone through. First in inches, then in leaps and now in latest single Never Knows Best in an undeniable eruption of mammoth vocals and soaring sugar soaked pop that is going to stay with you weeks after first listening.
Never Knows Best snuck its way onto Triple J Unearthed a couple of weeks ago with no fanfare, PR or plan. It was the first time the band had taken a hands off approach to a release. A couple of nights later and the band made their Triple J debut, with Never Knows Best singing out across the national airwaves in a triumphant first for the band. A credit to the strength of the song that beautiful ties in thematically with the meaning behind it.
Inspired by a potent piece of anime that has stuck with frontman St Jonnie for the past decade, Never Knows Best, is a song of pausing and looking back on just how far you have come, what you have made from your efforts, the people who have been with you on that journey and the ever sense of unknowing as to what is yet to come. Summarised beautifully and bluntly by Jonnie himself in the statement:
‘I wish I had more to say in that new vogue arthouse bullshit way that everyone just laps up, but the truth be told I have no idea what I am doing. I have these amazing people surrounding me and we are all just giving it a shot at doin something we feel is right.’
Never Knows Best’s film clip puts you in the passenger seat on FeelsClub journey as a band so far. A collection of phone shot intimate moments, band practices, insta stories and sweet nothing that feels warm and genuine.
FeelsClub may not entirely know what they are doing, but fuck they have done it well.
