Steel City Synths With Skyepaint
In a city known for it’s blue collar nature and plethora of guitar driven artists Skyepaint is breaking the mould. The solo synth pop project of Amos Wellings is setting out softly with some of the most subtly brilliant pop music the region has produced since Daniel Johns finished up with puberty.
Bury Us In Gold is the second release from Wellings under the moniker Skyepaint, delivering a synth soaked statement of arrival straight to the listener. A modern take on pop that nods heavily in the direction of it’s 80s influences whilst striving to stand up with similar current day artists in Jamie xx and Purity Ring. Vintage sounds snap cleanly around Wellings vocal delivery in a song that ambitiously soars to some quite huge heights for a solo artist. It’s infectious, it’s clever and it’s exciting to hear.
With Skyepaint’s recently developed live show, Rachel Maria Cox continuing to kill it and Newy’s biggest current export Kira Puru killing it on the national circuit; 2018 is shaping up to be a big year for the Steel City’s pop scene. Something I couldn’t be more thrilled to watch boom.
