Save an Iconic Music Venue and Buy This Mixtape

The Phoenix, it’s the cultural home of Canberra that keeps a thriving city of weirdos alive and well. Without it, simply put the city would be as shit as everyone else in the country believes it to be. Today, we’re proud to launch the Save The Phoenix Mixtape.

The short form of this story is that the great expenses and continually shifting goal posts of operational expectation due to a fire in a neighbouring building way back in 2014 and a dodgy landlord with no insurance led The Phoenix too a point of debt that they didn’t fathom being able to make it back from.

After 25 years of passion and pride in creating somewhere the outsiders, misfits, weirdos and wonderful people of Canberra could call home…  After over 10,000 shows and over 15,000 bands… The Phoenix almost died but with the help of whirlwind month of fundraising, beers and Canberra coming together they stuck their claws in and survived.

However, things still aren’t good.

The Phoenix is still facing an uphill battle before they can fully declare themselves safe. That’s why we are proud the present the Save The Phoenix Mixtape. Featuring music from 29 artists including Wil Wagner (The Smith Street Band), Jess Locke, Horror My Friend, Moaning Lisa, Antonia & The Lazy Susans and many more. At just $10 it’s an absolute bargain and 100% of profits will go directly into The Phoenix’s bank account to give the bar the shot in the arm it needs to spread those big beautiful wings and rise once again.

Bandcamp have also gotten behind the cause; generously donating 33% of their income from the release to the cause.

This Mixtape has been pulled together by Beniah Colbourn, Noise Floor Records and Laundry Echo.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank-you.
