PREMIERE: Helena Pop - How to do a FOLEY break and repair yourself
Helena Pop are the best live band in the country. That is a fact. Latest single How to do a FOLEY break and repair yourself is a snapshot of just that fact. Hence, why I am so incredibly proud to premiere the song on Laundry Echo today.
Sitting at just over one minute thirty seconds, HTDAFBARY is a bustling, brewing storm of repair and recovery post break-up that is so impossibly moreish that you’ll be scrambling to hit play on it again the second after it finishes. Beginning with a series of quick-fire chords, claps and frontman Jack Livingston’s iconic heart on sleeve vocals, HTDAFBARY blows out to the full blown sea of sound frequently associated with the band and back to Jack within a click. Helena Pop as a band ride the erratic powerhouse that is Jack Livingston and impressively make it stick. Building the perfect ever shifting platform for one of the country’s best song writers to flourish.
Asked of the meaning behind the song and process of writing it Livingston opens his heart:
“The song is a lot about repairing, so I think the ideas came from reflecting on a period of my life where things were changing and I had to reset and redo my life. I was 21 years old and I’d ended a long-term relationship and I had to figure out what life was after that”
HTDAFBARY is another incredible offering off Helena Pop’s upcoming EP the first extended release from Canberra’s most loved supergroup. With the original core of the band growing out to now include members of Moaning Lisa, The Lowlands and Azim Zain & His Lovely Bones, there couldn’t be a more Canberra band to showcase the brilliance and oddities of the region. Folk, punk, emo and a whole lot of party combines to create a truly special band and a truly special song in HTDAFBARY.
