Grace Turner's Dead Or Alive Is About To Get Stuck In Your Head
Right on time to become your new favourite artist, Grace Turner, has released her first taste of new music for 2018 in Dead Or Alive. A stomping song of friendship, support and dark times that is going to stay with you.
The mention of Grace Turner in any music circle is usually followed with several riffs from everyone in earshot of “holy shit, she’s so good”. A reputation built on the relentless release of driving indie folk numbers that slap you with an emotional intelligence and a deft touch for songwriting impossible to ignore.
Having taken out ABC Music Publishing/APRA songwriters and Composer’s Recognition Award and Best Young Talent at just 17, it’s not surprising to see Grace Turner’s music maturing into some of the most brilliantly written and faultlessly constructed in the country.
Dead Or Alive is a testament to Turner’s maturity in song construction and ability to turn a lyrical guise on her real life experiences. In this instance taking a phone call with a concerned friend and flipping it to a succinct song filled with a desperate concern and energy within the hour of hanging up the phone.
Marching drums and jangly guitars fill the song with an approachable warmth and create the platform from which Turner’s vocals take command and conduct the direction of the song. Potent lyrics are delivered in moments of daunting musical drop-out. At times intimate and others soaring, Dead Or Alive, is nothing short of brilliant.
