Folk Bitch Trio's Edie Has Harmonies So Lush They Will Break You
Good folk music will cut through you like a pair of craft scissors hitting their glide on a fresh pull of fabric. First it will snag, then it will figure you out and push past the threads that hold you together in an effortless motion of severance that leaves you completely cut to pieces. The debut single from Folk Bitch Trio is incredibly good folk music.
Deceptive in its surface sound of simplicity, Edie is a masterclass in entirely sublime composition. Edie, is a swell of three part pristine vocal harmonies, divine guitar tone and soft touches that elevate. Considered in every nook and cranny of the song, there is a deft intelligence present here that speaks to the potency of Folk Bitch Trio’s songwriting.
On their debut single Folk Bitch Trio’s name feels entirely at home amongst the new wave of folk artists like Julia Jacklin, Aldous Harding or Faye Webster. Remarkable in their vision and execution, showing far more than foundations to an untouchable chemistry amongst the three vocalists.
A cyclical song of affection, femininity, falling in love and fighting that opens and closes on the same line. Pulling the song full circle and beckoning you back for a second listen.
Note: this song first came out in May, but death to the song cycle. Great music is great music regardless of whenever you discover it. This is great music and it is new to me.
